Abstract The exponential model is used in the life cycle test of an asset, however, it is used because it is effective in dealing with reliability problems, taking a random sample ofn components selected from a lot, in the present work two applications through examples of the Normal and Weibull distributions. Regarding the optimal time for equipment replacement, considering the theoretical aspect mentioned in the work and applying the data such as the number of periods, the interest rate, the cost of acquiring the equipment and the maintenance costs, that point in time is determined. which the cost of the model that, instead of lowering, raises its cost, this is the optimal period to replace the equipment. The practical exercises are presented, the first corresponds to a state company in relation to the manufacture ofparts in the fuel system; the second example identifies the average life ofa component, the third determines the life cycle of an asset; the fourth and fifth examples are based on the purchase price to determine the optimal renewal time. In this sense, in order to apply the exposed theory which allows identifying the exact moment in which an equipment must be replaced, so as not to genérate economic damage, which would reflect a loss to the institution. In conclusion, priority is given to optimizing the scarce resources available, promoting efftciency and effectiveness, generating effectiveness of a fixed asset
