GOMEZ SAAVEDRA, Mirtha. ENTERRAMIENTOS INFANTILES EN LA IGLESIA DE SAN BERNARDO-POTOSÍ (XVIII - XIX): UN ACERCAMIENTO AL PATRIMONIO Y LA ARQUEOLOGÍA HISTÓRICA COLONIAL . Rev. Patrim. Arqueol. [online]. 2023, vol.1, n.2, pp. 67-80. ISSN 2959-2410.
Abstract The present essay aims to address the beginning of research on the mummified-looking infant remains that were found during the repairs of the San Bernardo temple between the years 1988-1989. The age of the remains, currently deposited in the rooms of the Casa de Moneda Museum, is not specified, but it is estimated according to the grave goods and the place of discovery a colonial temporality cióse to the late eighteenth century. The objective of this preliminary work involves a multidisciplinary discussion on the research opportunities of the funeral and religious practices developed by the Ibero-American society of the Colonial period of the Imperial Villa of Potosí. Likewise, it raises ethical questions about the treatment of sensitive human remains, putting on the table the discussion about the balance between the management of cultural heritage and the responsibility of archaeological work.
