Abstract Recent research on funeral architecture in the Andean altiplano highiights its potential to explore the construction of ethnic identities within regional socio-political entities. Burial towers are an architectural type with the potential to explore these dy-namics betweenthe 13th and 17th centuries. Although there are regional studies on burial towers from the Pakasa, Lupaca and Colla áreas, little is known about similar structures in Omasuyos. This study identifies three types of burial towers in Escoma, explores the construction of differen-tiated ethnic identities among the builders, and posits a chro-nological correlation based on morphological and constructive attributes.
