Abstract

Adaptability is the capacity to face properly to any environmental demand, regulating behavior in order to reach the homeostasis. The transition to the university life is problematic for many students if they do not adapt themselves quickly and effectively, this fact affects their performance. This study aims to find the characteristics of adaptability and determine its predictive value on the academic performance. An adaptability test was applied TACDES to 39 students from Universidad Tecnológica Boliviana (Bolivian Technological University) and it was found that the 45.71% of students have low and very low adaptability, they are unstable with the changes in the environment and only the 45.71 % answer good in favorable environments. Adaptability is a good indicator of the academic performance (r=0.635). Finally, adaptability is mainly related with the adjusting of thoughts, flexibility, generation of solutions, and problems identification and solutions.
