Abstract In the present article presents the diagnosis of the current state of cooperative learning as an essential com-petence in the formation of systems of knowledge, skills and attitudes that university students develop. This research has as main objective to propose the design of didactic strategies based on the cooperative learning forthe development of knowledge, skills and attitudes in students of second semester of the career of Educa-tion Sciences at the Universidad Mayor de San Andres. The study of type transactional descriptive, it was sus-tained theoretically in Slavin (1999), Pujolàs (2001), Johnson and Johnson (1997), Alegre and Osuna (2010), among other authors. The design of investigation that sustained is the non-experimental in which participated 45 students of whom 71 per cent belongs to the female gender and 29 per cent to the male gender. All of them responded to the Questionnaire for the assessment of cooperative learning adapted from Gonzales and Garcia (2007). The results indicate that 58% of the students perceive that the cooperative learning promotes criticism, interrelationship, reflection and positioning before different interventions of classmates. Of the results can be concluded that the interpersonal relations among students are more stable, deep and compromised in the cooperative learning. The cooperative learning as an essential competence in higher education is also a methodological strategy that implies a challenge to the creativity, research and innovation in the organization and management of the university classrooms.
