    Abstract

MARISCAL, Anahí. The blessing of being a man and the sin to being a woman. J. Com. Soc. [online]. 2019, vol.9, n.9, pp. 129-164. ISSN 2412-5733.

This article aims to contribute to the debate on representation in Bolivian cinema, but seen from a gender perspective. Thus, it seeks to answer the question that guided the research on which this writing is based: How Bolivian culture, based on a patriarchal social structure, has caused the representation of women as objectified to masculinity in Wara film productions Wara (1930), Ukamau (1966), The Andes do not believe in God (2007) and Sleeping beauty (2012)? To this end, Laura Mulvey's theories (2005) were applied; Doroty Smith (1987; 2005a, 2005b) Judith Butler (1997; 2002; 2007). Thus dialogue between contemporary gender theories and the representation of women in Bolivian cinema.

Keywords : Patriarchal structure; women; gender; representation; cinema; Bolivia.
