In the 21^st century the inhabitants of El Alto are still practicing their rites, customs and traditions according to their own culture. The "urban-aymara" marriage is an example of this prevalence of cultural traditions and their adaptation or resignification in urban context. Thus, the aymara migrants who live in El Alto do not leave their identity and their native-community sense. This article aims to describe and understand the influence of the process of urbanization in the transformation of rites and traditions of the urban-aymara marriage. This article is focusing in life stories and participant observation of the old aymara-carabuqueño marriage of Pedro Machicado and Mercedes Miranda, and in urban-aymara marriage of Grover Foronda and Victoria Rondo, who were born in Carabuco and live in El Alto. Both show that the celebration of the marriage has a strong social incidence in their community and in the city where they live.
