    Abstract

PIEROLA SOLIZ, Carlo. Life is a risk carnal: Memes as a form of interpretation of reality, opposed to the conventional media. J. Com. Soc. [online]. 2018, vol.7, n.7, pp. 105-148. ISSN 2412-5733.

If there is something new under internet, they are the memes. This phenomena in constant change presents various angles to be studied. The present work studied them, starting from memes that talk about tragedies until the ones that talk about the daily life from the user's perspective. Combining both quantitative and qualitative methods (k media clustering and focus groups in Facebook), we found that a preference for the memes is caused because they present a world where everything can be laughed at, instead of a world of risks, as it happens with the news. Finally, the article contributes to the discussion of internet's sociology.

Keywords : Memes; news; humor; discourse; internet; consumerism.
