PAREDES ALVARADO, Daniel  y  ARRAGAN TANCARA, Fanny B. Effect of overlap in sprinkler irrigation for quinoa production (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) in the municipality of Patacamaya, Central Highlands. RIIARn [online]. 2018, vol.5, n.1, pp. 16-26. ISSN 2409-1618.

Abstract In Bolivia, 97% of irrigation activities are carried outthrough traditional systems because of their low implementation costs, the need for high volumes is the main problem, added to the low efficiency and uniformity, sprinkler irrigation is an alternative that allows a timely and efficient replenishment of water to crops; nevertheless, fortypical climatic conditions of the highlands, it is still necessary more information referring to the uniformity of irrigation distribution. Quinoa, a strategic species that contributes to food security and sovereignty, is one of the most important crops in the highland region. The objective of the work was to analyze the effect of three percentages of overlap between sprinklers with the application of fixed sprinkler irrigation for the production of quinoa of the variety "Jacha Grano" in the Experimental Station of Patacamaya, the percentages of overlap were 70%-T1, 85%-T2 and 100%-T3, the indicators evaluated were the Coefficient of Uniformity, Uniformity of Distribution in the lower quarter, Coefficient of Variation and Efficiency of Application. Among the results it is emphasized that the use of high values of surface fraction properly irrigated, implies acceptable or excellent uniformity coefficients, otherwise the requirement of water for an adequate irrigation is increased, also, the losses by wind are an important factor in the distribution of irrigation on the plot. The treatments T3 and T2 presented the highest quinoa yields with 1.96 and 1.93 t ha-1. The treatments under irrigation show a similar behavior with respect to the growth of the quinoa crop, the treatments 3 (overlap of 100%) and 2 (overlap of 85%), presented plants with greater height, length of panicle, percentage of large grains and yield.
