Abstract

Teaching styles can be understood as the ways in which teachers organize their educational work themselves influencing learning styles of students. His knowledge is essential as input to make decisions aimed at improving the teaching and learning. Objective: Determine the type of teaching styles that dominate teachers of the commercial engineering career at the University San Francisco Xavier of Chuquisaca (Sucre, Bolivia) and its relationship to gender, type of occupation or educational qualifications, age and years of experience. Subjects and methods: The study was conducted in 55 holders teachers to the learning styles questionnaire designed by Alonso, Gallego and Honey in 1994 was applied. Results: The predominant styles of teaching in the commercial engineering career, are the functional and formal, same type that have a relationship with the styles of pragmatic and reflective learning, which is seen as consistent as the professional profile being sought in commercial engineers. Have been identified teaching styles according to gender, men presenting open and functional styles, and women mostly a structured style. With regard to age, it appears that older teachers with a teaching style have open and younger structured type style. Conclusions: Meet the teaching style of teachers is a step to proceed with the improvement of teaching and learning processes, the next step is to establish the learning styles of students. It should not require the student its adaptation to the demands of a homogeneous and homogenizing education.
