Currently, Internationalization of Higher Education has gained importance in the academic context, moreover is widely addressed in worldwide educational events. However, there are still many institutions unaware of the true potential of such process. Therefore, the aim of this paper was to conduct a brief introduction to Internationalization throughout a review of its definition, and the indicators used to characterize the situation of a Higher Education Institution in the international context. This information will serve as an initial guide towards a comprehensive internationalization, creating interest to those institutions who still does not have a precise idea of the topic and, maybe, in the future they can implement a systematic strategy that helps achieving their goals. Based on the reviewed studies, it can be acknowledged that all the process starts from the objectives through a consensus among the stakeholders, who will define the information to be measured. Fortunately, there are different tools that can be adopted as a base to build up a set of indicators, allowing a better comprehension about the process associated with the creation of policies or strategies in volved in the internationalization.
