MARISCAL P, C.A; ANDERSON Z, H.W y GUTIERREZ M, F.D. CONCENTRACIÓN DE CÉLULAS SOMÁTICAS EN LECHE CRUDA DE VACA EN MERCADOS DE ABASTO, TRINIDAD-BOLIVIA. Rev.Cient.Agro.Amaz. [online]. 2014, n.4, pp. 19-27. ISSN 2307-9606.
The presence of somatic cells in milk showed the inflammation level of mammary glands, so it is a parameter of the cow sanitary level or of the whole herd. The present study was established the Somatic Cells Concentration (CCS/ml) in row cow's milk; samples coming from 14 shops dispersed in eight Trinidad's markets were examined; Bolivia, 2012. The cells were counting directly with the microscopy and also indirectly through the California Mastitis Test (CMT). Results indicated 50.0% of samples were Milk Class 1 (< 400,000 CCS/ml); 7.1% Class 2 (401,000 to 500,000 CCS/ ml); 7.1% Class 3 (501,000 to 749,000 CCS/ml); and 35.8% with higher values (>1,000,000 CCS/ ml). According to the test, 50.0% of samples were negative (-) to CMT; 14.3% weak positive (+); 21.4% evident positive (++) and 14.3% strong positive (+++). All the samples (100%) were preserved at temperatures over 5-10°C; then 50% of samples had a neutral pH (6.6-6.8) and the rest 50% a pH slightly acidic. It was conclude that the raw milk sold at Trinidad's markets does not meet the quality and safety parameters recommended for human consumption. Also, there is a positive relation between the CCS and CMT.
