ABSTRACT In orderto determine morphological characteristics of eight plantain varieties collected in Nor Yungas (La Paz) and Chapare (Cochabamba) provinces, banana standard descriptor from IPGRI-INIBAP/ CIRAD were used. Sixty-five qualitative and quantitative descriptors related to the plant, to the leaves, to the flower and to the fruits were studied. Outstanding descriptors were observed in detail. Moreover, a physicochemical analysis of fruits was done, also surveys to the farmers and testing tests to evaluate the degree of preference. Data was analyzed through multivariate and cluster analysis to group the varieties, regarding qualitative and quantitative descriptors.
