ABSTRACT Due to changes in people lifestyle and food consumption, there is a request of meat of good quality with more muscle tissue and less fat. To satisfy this demand it was evaluated the effect of Ractopamine (0, 5 y 10 ppm) on weight gain, food conversion and dorsal fat of finishing pigs during growth phase. Twelve castrated pigs (Yorkshire) were random selected and divided in three groups (two treatment groups and control group) with four repetitions everyone. Results showed a significant difference of daily weight gain (P<0.05) between the treatment groups (3.1 Kg) and the control (1.4 Kg). Also, food conversion of both treatment groups (2.03 y 2.06 Kg) showed a significant diference compared with the control (4.68 Kg). Evenmore, Ractopamine added to the pigs meal reduced dorsal fat (P<0,05) in the treatment groups (1.0 y 0.5 cm) compared to the control (1.5 cm).
