ABSTRACT Blood-feeding ectoparasites are important pests of cattle worldwide as the horn fly Haematobia irritans (Linnaeus) that provokes high stress in animals. An important subject to study was the H. irritans (L) prevalence proportion in cattle from farms of different size (very small, small, medium and big) situated in Cercado Province, Beni (Bolivia) between 2009 and 2011. The method was the indirect visual counting of horn fly adults using digital pictures of cattle. It was found that H. irritans (L) is disseminate in the area, the prevalence proportion in farms is from intense to severe and the prevalence in animals is moderate to intense, even if there was a pest chemical control in the farms. Also, it was showed that counting the horn fly adults through digital pictures is an effective method.
