Abstract This article reviews the main concepts related to the digital signature as cryptography, electronic seal (Hash functions), security related problems (authenticity, integrity, non-repudiation and confidentiality), certification services providers, electronic certificates and the use of digital signature by the public and private sector s. Subsequently, the article shows an overview about the Certification Authority of Bolivia, the Agency for the Development of the Information Society (ADSIB) and the Association of Private Banks of Bolivia (ASOBAN); and finally it talks about the implementation of the digital signature in the of Customs Modernization Unique System (SUMA). The digital signature is any method or symbol based on electronic means, used or adopted by aparty with current intention tojoin or authenticate a document, fulfilling all or some ofthe typical functions ofa handwritten signature.
