A primary objective of San Jacinto Dam when it was built was to supply water for irrigation, and for human consumption, the latter one was carried out for a short time; as time passed water quality declined which was demonstrated through studies conducted. The main cause of pollution in the basin is unknown. In addition to agricultural activities carried out on the area, it should also be noted that as a touristic place, there is a large commercial activity of food selling because of the constant influx of people. Therefore a significant amount of waste is generated which pollutes the source of water; besides that, it should not be ignored that the increase of housings in the areas surrounding the lake has been exponential in recent years. No recent studies on the water quality of San Jacinto Lake have been carried out, which results in a series of speculations among the citizens limiting the possible uses that can be given to the liquid element. Among the main results obtained in the present investigation, it is possible to point out that water in San Jacinto Lake corresponds to "Class B", by the content of the Fecal Coliform values of BOD. It is also recorded that there is variability in pollution during the dry and rainy season.
