    Resumen

FLORES AVILA, Jacqueline. Factors of repetition in the subjects of chemistry students inthe firs semester in the careers of biochemistry and chemical harmaceutical of the UAJMS. Rev. Vent. Cient. [online]. 2016, vol.7, n.11, pp. 10-21. ISSN 2305-6010.

It is evident Higher Education Institutions (HEI) face serious problems into different areas. The situation presented in this paper focus on the increasing number of students who fail and repeat chemistry subject from Biochemistry and Pharmaceutical Chemistry careers at UAJMS. This problem has not been examined neither theoretical nor practically. It is a phenomenon found at all levels of education, but most strongly and with negative effects at the first semesters. In this sense, the main objective of this research work is: "To Determine the decisive factors to first semester students fail and repeat General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry I from Biochemistry and Pharmaceutical Chemistry careers at UAJMS". 113 students participated in this survey, who were taking the subjects of general Chemistry and Organic Chemistry I (86 students were repeating the subject and 27 not). The information was collected through a questionnaire, and some of the main results are: The higher incidence factors of predictive value in the phenomenon of the repetition were firstly academics: a regular pre-university academic performance 41.1%, regular training provided in this course 38.4%, disinterest in chemistry 64.0%, difficulty in learning Chemistry 88,4%, some factors about that are: lack of study with 84.2%; 48.8% of low attendance and participation in chemistry classes. Secondly, the socio-demographic and economic factors: civil status (single or with boyfriend) 55.8%, low-income 81.4%; and finally the institutional and pedagogical factors: Regular relationship between the teacher and repeating and non-repeating students, 45.3 %. Through the focus group technique, it was diagnosed the mentioned factors, which were determining references for the design of the Assistance program to students who repeat grades or are in risk to repeat during the first half of the year (PAAR) in Biochemistry and Pharmaceutical Chemistry careers at U.A.J.M.S.
