The congenital hipotiroidismo (HTC) is one of the reasons of mental delay easily avoidable in the childhood and can be diagnosed in the first month of life across the method of screening neonatal. The investigation considered to realize the detection and precocious treatment of the congenital hipotiroidismo in newborn children in the Hospital Regional San Juan y Hospital Obrero No. 7 de la Caja Nacional de Salud, of Tarija's city to anticipate mental delay, in the period January to December, 2010. One proceeded to the capture of newborn children's sample with assent informed about the parents, the positives to the screening had the second test by means of serum diagnostic of hormones TSH and T4 and the positive confirmees joined to the treatment with levotiroxina. The opposing incident of hipotiroidismo congenital is superior to the average established in the national studies considered as reference; due to this situation, the opposing findings sit solid bases that justify the creation of a regular program in the maternities of Tarija's Department for the incorporation of the test of screening to the newborn children.
