VARGAS FLORES, Tatiana  e  KUNO VARGAS, Alvin. Morfología Bacteriana. Rev. Act. Clin. Med [online]. 2014, vol.49, pp. 2594-2598. ISSN 2304-3768.

Bacteria are microorganisms that reproduce by binary fission, and has three basic forms: spherical bacteria or cocci, bacilli and elongated or curved or espirilos bacteria that can also eat, spirochetes and vibrias. Some cocci receive another name, being flattened are called coccobacilli. Bacteria may have certain morphological variations, among these are those that are star-shaped, flat and rectangular, elongated pear-shaped and finally those that are non-cellular stalks. The cells may be observed macroscopically when in groups, while the cell colonies are formed by the reproduction of the bacteria incubated approximately about 24 hours, meanwhile clusters of bacteria require a longer time to form colonies of millions of bacteria. The colony size may vary from 0.5 to 4.0 millimeters in diameter coming to have a circular shape, punctate, irregular, rhizoid orfusiform. Bacteria can be observed through an optical or electronic microscope with appropriate staining since they are colorless, but can also be seen without staining, being placed in non-aqueous solutions to increase the refractive index.
