ABSTRACT Enteral nutrition is the administration of various nutrients through the digestive tract, in individuáis who lack the ability to ingest food by themselves and thus achieve an adequate nutritional status to maintain vital body functions. The candidates for this type of nutrition are preterm infants with low birthweight, in situations of disease or disorder of the upper portions of the digestive tract, in patients who cannot tolérate food or drink, in an inability to ingest food because disorders neurological, etc. For the selection of the path and the requirement of nutrients, take into account the underlying disease, nutritional and energy needs vary from one patient to another, for which different types of routes of administration are employed they can be oral, gastric , duodenal or jejunal so we can reduce rates of malnutrition, morbidity and the proportional number of deaths in a population.
