ABSTRACT The philosophy of food for good health is a concept accepted very currently. Based on this premise, research into the development of alternative foods that complement the food supplement or replace such diet is known as an evolving process. Thus, there have been discoveries based concepts such as functional foods and nutraceuticals. The aim of this review is to present information regarding the so-called nutraceuticals on a global basis, for which the collection of information is based on the search of all electronic source available for open access, and review of concepts related to branch of medicine that deals with the study of power in order to build simple concepts without going too deeply into molecular and biochemical details. Information regarding their social context and individual are also reviewed which is also the subject of analysis by the end of the article have actually found a special field which aims to inform.
