    Resumen

TORRES CAMACHO, Vanesa  y  CHOGAR OQUENDO, Delina. Magnesio - selenio. Rev. Act. Clin. Med [online]. 2014, vol.41, pp. 2156-2159. ISSN 2304-3768.

Minerals such as magnesium and selenium are considered by macro-and microelements found in higher and lower concentration in the human body, representing inorganic nutrients essential for optimal functioning Magnesium is a purely intracellular element deposited in over 60% of its concentration in hard tissue, muscles 27% and 1% in blood plasma. Their biological functions are carried out in close liaison with calcium and phosphorus, and relate to: generation of cellular energy normal mitotic division, muscle contraction and protein metabolism; functions that allow it to be considered as a preventative or treatment during course of disease as in the: type 2 diabetes to increase insulin sensitivity, arrhythmias, during or prior to an event of eclampsia, and / or as a preventive element osteoporosis. However, improper use of it, could lead to hypermagnesemia or hypomagnesemia, almost always associated with a disease. The main task performed selenium in the body as an antioxidant is glutathione peroxidase. An adequate intake depends on the amount of selenium in soil cultivation and the amount of protein in food.
