    Resumen

MENDEZ-ROSALES, Marcelo; AYMAYA-GUTIERREZ, César Eloy; GUTIERREZ-CHOQUE, Fanny Milenca  y  HUACOTA-SAAVEDRA, Mauren. FOURNIER GANGRENE AFTER TRANSURETHRAL PROSTATECTOMY FOR PROSTATE CANCER: APROPOS OFA CASE. Rev. Méd.-Cient. Luz Vida [online]. 2011, vol.2, n.1, pp. 64-67. ISSN 2219-8032.

Fournier gangrene is a necrotizing, subcutaneous, fulminant, polymicrobial origen, and rapidly progressive fasciitis (the progression rate of local infection can reach to 2.54 cm/hour). It primarily affects the genital, perineal and abdominal wall (through the Colles fascia and Scarpa's fascia). It is a rare but potentially lethal disease, with a mortality that reaches to 67%, especially in elderly patients. It is reported a case of a male patient aged 63 with Fournier's gangrene after transurethral prostatectomy for prostate cancer. It is important to present this case report because this complication does not occur commonly after transurethral prostatectomy, becoming the first case of Fournier's gangrene as a result of prostate cancer surgery reported in Viedma Hospital.

Palabras llave : Fournier's gangrene; Necrotizing fasciitis; Post-transurethral prostatectomy.
