    Resumo

    INTRODUCTION: Since a biologic point of view, Thyroid nodules are relatively common and a different kind of injuries. The most of solitary tumors are benign injuries, such as: nodular hyperplasia, with is located in one only place, Cyst of thyroiditis is a variety of follicular adenomas, which it is about 90% of neoplasm nodules. In women, Thyroid cancer represents approximately 1.9% of all malignant neoplasm; in men, it is 0.3%. Diagnosis and therapeutic clinical study must begin with a complete medical history, physical exami-nation and laboratory tests (including a thyroid profile to assess gland function). Thyroid nodules with clinical features indicative of malignancy should be operating. This article emphasizes the importance of timely diagnosis and treatment of tumors above- mentioned, to improve health and quality of life of patients. OBJECTIVE: To determine thyroid nodule treatment and to establish a correlation between diagnostic methods, such as: ultrasonography, Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) and histopathology study. Compare sensi-tivity with specificity of TIRADS classification. MATERIAL AND METHODS: It was a descriptive and retrospective study with 95 patients like a sample, taken from the universe composed of all patients who had a total thyroidectomy in the period of January 2007 to June 2010 in the "Obrero N°2, C.N.S." Hospital RESULTS: In the study sample there was a preponderance of feminine patients and a prevalence of mul-tinodular goitier in 32% of cases; within this group 7 were positive for papillary cancer after pathological examination. CONCLUSIONS: There is 27% operated thyroid malignancy. Routine dissection of Group VI in the papillary cancer was positive in 10% of patients operated on period January 2009 to June 2010. Total thyroidectomy is the best technique to prevent recurrences and in experienced hands, this is a safe surgery.
