    Resumen

EUGENIA, Bridikhina. Vicente Pazos Kanki and the theory of history. Estudios Bolivianos [online]. 2017, n.27, pp. 39-62. ISSN 2078-0362.

Abstract In this article we reflect on the intellectual production of the Bolivian writer Vicente Pazos Kanki, a fundamental author of the first halfof the 19th century. It analyzes the main historical works that are part of his critical thinking about the republican society in America and Bolivia. Starting from the idea of Foucault (1976) who points out that the French historiography of the same epoch insisted on reconstructing the génesis of the State, an attempt is made to under stand the concern of Pazos Kanki for studying the history of the United States and Spain to answer the question why the Latín American countries did not achieve the same success as the United States of America. Likewise, his role as a historian of history, his proposal of comparative history, his use of the concepts and laws of history as well as his reflection on the positioning of the historian facing the challenges of the past and the present are made visible.
