This literature review summarizes how the Holistic Dentistry has emerged, the institutions that supports them, the registrated online members they have and the main distinctive characteristics of this other view point in Dentistry. It is presented the otherpoint of view from Dentistry as a part of the Health Sciences mentioning the American Dental Association (ADA) and other organizations as well as authors of mayor books in Dentistry very well known in the scientific dental field to mainly compare both propositions, specially the most controversial of them which is the use of amalgam fillings for patients. At the same time some examples of malpractice at which holistic dentist have been subjected are presented and the disciplinary actions that were taken against them. Finally, the current position regarding dental amalgam fillings from Dentistry as a part of Health Sciences is presented and on the other hand; the position statement ofthe International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT) against dental mercury is presented as well as letting the reader choose the criterio they will prefer to follow.
