Prevalence ofactinic chel litis in patients oe dental clinicat dentistry department of universidad privada del valle, la paz, periodii/2012. Rev. Inv. Inf. The lips anatomically offer three regions: the mucosa, the semimucosa and the skin región. The semimucosa, red zone or lips vermilion histologically presents a parakeratinization and lacks the presence of salivary glands. It is in this buffer between the skin and mucous this study has its origins. An experimental, cross-sectional study was performed in patients of the dental clinic at the Universidad Privada del Valle in La Paz, in the period 11/2012, with the aim of determining the prevalence of actinic or solar cheilitis. This is a pre-malignant condition, which affects the lips vermilion usually at the bottom. As incisional biopsy of 10 lower lip samples was taken from 20-23 years oíd patients and histologi-cally analyzed to obtain a definitive diagnosis. It is concluded that the actinic cheilitis has a prevalen-ce of 70%, the remaining 20% are other changes as discrete edema or chronic irritative cheilitis smoking and 10% did not show any pathology (control group). The prevalence of actinic cheilitis is caused by solar radiation and height in people living in La Paz city, especially in males, 83%, the remaining 17% are other alterations.
