Abstract

Objective.- To describe the laparoscopic approach in small bowel obstruction suitable for surgical treatment and to evaluate the effectiveness for the diagnosis and therapeutic procedure in this disease in a selected patients by evaluating complications and the benefits in post operative recovery. Material and Methods.- We performed a retrospective, descriptive study in two patients with this diseases treatment with laparoscopy. Results.- The laparoscopic approach allowed complete exploration of the small bowel and identification of the cause of obstruction. The mean operative time was 44 minutes, there was no mortality and there were no mayor postoperative complications, the mean length of hospital stay was 3 days. None of the patients has shown recurrence. Conclusions.- The laparoscopic approach is very successful, in bowel obstruction by adherences and constitutes an effective alternative in the treatment of small bowel obstruction in selected patients.
