VALDEZ CARRIZO, Edgar; VARGAS CABALLERO, Andrés and APAZA ALCARAZ, Macarena. KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDES AND MEDICAL PERSONNEL PRACTICE ABOUT HIV/AIDS FROM COCHABAMBA CITY REPORT COMPARED, TWELVE YEAR AFTER. Rev. méd. (Cochabamba) [online]. 2010, vol.21, n.1, pp. 53-63. ISSN 2074-4609.
It has been twelve years between the two surveys, we observed the knowledge of HIV possessed by the medical personnel from Cochabamba City, they have increased their knowledge significantly compared with the first survey, but they still need to know rudiments of HIV/aids, for example, the knowledge required of the blood test donors, that should give 100% correct answers, in the survey we only got 25.6%. The response of the perception of the risk behaviour is insufficient (29.8%) due prejudices and sexual stereotypes in medical personnel. Similarly, the response is deficient about transmission of the maternal - fetal of HIV (36, 1%). The knowledge about anti-retroviral drug, is not enough (33,3%) and just 56.1% feels capable to take care of HIV/aids patients. The survey shows the decreased fear and rejection to people with HIV. The Institute Human Development contributed to increase the knowledge in the health personnel, and change of attitude and improved care in people with HIV in Cochabamba City. Health care medical such as diagnosis, monitoring, laboratory, treatment of opportunistic diseases services are improving, also, the respect of human rights of people who live with HIV, this is insufficient to ensure good care of people with HIV. Persistent exposure due to the risk of accidental transmission, because of failure to comply with biosafety regulations.
