TORRICO-ALBINO,, Juan Carlos; JURGEN POHLAN, H.A  y  QUISPE, José Luis. State of the art and formative demand for the revitalization of coffee plantations in the Yungas of Bolivia. CienciAgro [online]. 2019, vol.9, n.1, pp. 28-41. ISSN 2072-1404.

ABSTRACT The coffee production systems in Bolivia have the lowest yields in the region; There is very little Bolivian literature on production systems, their characterization, problem analysis, training demand in the sector and alternatives for revitalization. The objective of this article is to analyze the context and state of the art of coffee production in Bolivia, and to propose thematic aggregates and professional profiles for capacity development processes to contribute to the revitalization of coffee growing process in Bolivia. The study had a quantitative and qualitative, cross-sectional, participatory approach. There was a final sampling of 34 families from the Yungas of La Paz. An interview based on Good Agricultural Practices and participatory workshops was applied to determine the problem, producer profile and training demand. The results indicate that the low productivity and profitability of coffee cultivation in the Yungas of La Paz is mainly due to (i) Low use of technology and degradation of natural resources, (ii) Lowtechnical capacities and (iii) High incidence of pests and diseases. In addition to the diagnosis, the training needs of the coffee sector in Bolivia were determined, de-termining the profile of the producer and the academic content required for the revitalization of coffee plantations and capacity development based on Good Agricultural Practices. Thirteen pillars and 49 components are proposed as specific content in capacity development programs, taking into account the principles of GAP and resilience. These results can be very useful for researchers, and for developers of coffee policies in Bolivia, especially for curriculum development.
