RUEDA ESQUIVEL, Gilberto. THE WISE IGNACIO TERÁN (1847-1926). Rev. Fuent. Cong. [online]. 2020, vol.14, n.65, pp. 87-91. ISSN 1997-4485.

The fascinating, striking and moving bio-bibliography of a humanist from Santa Cruz in the best style of the European Renaissance is outlined, an intellectual who, by tracing his intellectual path, left a deep mark. From the humble and, until now, little clarified origins in the provincial city, capital at that time of the Santa Cruz valleys, we will follow in the footsteps of Ignacio Terán and his solid training in the capital of Chuquisaca, in the classrooms of the centennial Universidad San Francisco Xavier de Chuquisaca of the city of Sucre, in the seventh decade of the XIX century, when he finished his law degree. The pedagogical dedication that Terán undertook, carried out to improve the educational experience of the Bolivian student body, both in the schools of the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, and in those of the city of Sucre, through his years as a teacher in these educational institutions. The deep vocation of a committed historian and archivist, demonstrated through his periodic publications, his historiographical work, little known, but so important for his region and for the entire country. His publications, which enjoyed great acceptance in the Bolivian and international intellectual and cultural milieu, came to cross borders and be considered an authorized voice in the international milieu, rubbing shoulders with such figures as José Martí, among others. His work in public institutions in the country, from the former National Court of Accounts, to individual commissions in charge of defining and delimiting, with the greatest possible accuracy, Bolivian borders. A necessary bio-bibliography to understand the figure of an intellectual, considered in his time a true sage.
