    Abstract

    The present work approaches the history that accompanied the creation of the first museum of national character in Cuba. This museum from the beginning was designed with a library whose main mission was to manage the historical documental memory of the nascent Republic of Cuba. There is related the perseverance of its first two directors to defend the existence and the treasures of which became the National Museum of Fine Arts of Cuba later. Today the Museum consists of a building of Cuban Art and another of Universal Art and the initial library of the Museum has become the Information Center "Antonio Rodríguez Morey", reference place for the information on the Plastic Arts in Cuba.
