Abstract This article proposes a critical reinterpretation of the social, political and economic evolution of a territory that, due to its mineral richness and singularity, raised a strong interest and a violent expansion of mining capitalism in the hands of the British and the Chileans. The paper offers a critical approach to the mining process during the postwar period, analyzing its economic, political and social derivations in the former Bolivian Litoral department.
