ABSTRACT The Historical Archive of Tarija protects the judicial documentary corpus, a documental and historical source of great importance covering the events of San Bernardo de Tarija since its foundation, organization and distribution, as well as references on the economic and social relationship of the Tarija district with the Intendencia of Potosí and the Real Audiencia of Charcas and finally, background on the first years of independence, embodied in civil trials and other records. This article points out the need to work with the Judicial Collection according to a conservation diagnosis, through the preparation of a basic guide allowing the identification of physical-mechanical / chemical and biological damages, as well as the level of damage of the files. This is the first step to stop and / or prevent the negative impact on the collection, its materials and the historical information it holds.
