TORREZ, Yuri F.. Indian rebellion of Cochabamba in 1781 between the symbolic insurgency and the restitution of the colonial discursive order. Rev. Fuent. Cong. [online]. 2018, vol.12, n.55, pp. 6-16. ISSN 1997-4485.
ABSTRACT This article exposes the indian rebellion occurred in 1781 in Cochabamba. It presents the rituals, icons and symbolic representations that surrounded this insurgency. Beyond the military effects of this confrontation of racial nuances, allegories were used by rebellious indians as a symbolic strategy that accompanied their anti-colonial movement. The article also explores the response of the local royal authorities to this rebellion of the Cochabamba indians, which was also symbolic. This rebellion is included in a cycle of indigenous uprisings that marked the Andean area in the second half of the eighteenth century. Although this rebellion was short in time, because of its radicalism, it was intense. This Indian uprising has been poorly studied by the Cochabamba historians, perhaps because it did not suit the criteria designed by the local oligarch élite.
