Summary This research provides an approach to the Uruguayan archival history, processes and developments as well as the contribution of the main institutions that committed to progress, seeks to provide a basis for knowledge and understanding of its development, which was conducted with information gathered from various sources, reviewing the major events that marked the national archival.
