    Abstract

    This review of the Chilean archival history includes a presentation from a historical introduction that comprises archival source in the country with the Spanish tradition, the colonial period, the early concern with the memory, showing the losses of the documents of that time, mainly caused by the ravages of nature and indigenous uprisings. Also includes the archival development of the republican period, which creates the First Archive in the public administration, initial antecedents that would subsequently  permit create National Archive, which had its origin in the first third of the twentieth century. In this review, it is detailed Archives richness as its historical importance which is therefore the very source of the country’s history.  Later on, and following the course of archival events, like the creation of the National Archives Administration (ARNAD), the creation of regional archives, the list of Archives in the country (Censos Guía), and the creation of the Association of Archivists of Chile. Certainly with respect to legislation, are mentioned separately the legal rules that create the National Archive and the National Archive Administration, from any supplementary law or any norms with direct impact on archivist.   It is also highlight the Chilean Archives which are declared “world´s documentary heritage”, the incipient and gradual creation of the professional formation of archivist, the international conferences that have relevance, and finally the respective conclusions of all above mentioned.
