    Resumen

CRIVELLI, Renato  y  BIZELLO, Maria Leandra. A HISTÓRIA DA ARQUIVOLOGIA NO BRASIL (1838-2012). Rev. Fuent. Cong. [online]. 2012, vol.6, n.21, pp. 44-56. ISSN 1997-4485.

The study of Archival and Archives in Brazil are considered quite recent, since the 1970’s. Today is facing major changes and developments, such undergraduate courses in Archival, among other events to promote the area. However, if we look closely at the history of Brazil, we see that the origins are already in Archival imperial times, with the creation of the Public Archives (National Archives). Gradually, the Archival accompanies national political development, in order to meet the pragmatic needs of the Administration, especially the public one. This paper attempts to keep an eye on the development of the area, while knowledge of the Archival is not only practical methodologies. We started with the creation of the National Archives in 1838, and continued until today, through three lines of the area: archival institutions, public files policies and institutions of higher archivist education. We include some reflections on the current situation in Brazil Archivology, as a field of knowledge, and the social context in which it operates.
