Abstract
ESCALANTE SEMERENA, Roberto and BASURTO HERNANDEZ, Saúl. Resiliencia de un Sistema Socio-Ecológico. Revista Virtual REDESMA [online]. 2014, vol.7, n.1, pp. 25-36. ISSN 1995-1078.
Currently, there is a global concern about more significant challenges that non-normal environmental phenomena are imposing. The literature suggests that the manner in which human beings are related with the environment involves, necessarily, the interaction between a social and ecological system. Then, a Socio-Ecological System (SES) arises. These kinds of systems are complex with non-linear relationships between variables that are determining their performance. Thus, the analysis becomes more complex. However, resilience approach can be applied to understand its capacity to absorb shocks, maintaining its basic performance, functions and the chance to improve it through innovations. It represents a useful tool when communities are facing environmental challenges. This document presents the results obtained from a specific forest case study, Comaltepec, Mexico.
