Latin America is being rebuilt as a post-geographic and transnational space. This reinterpre-tation by new intelkctuals is simultaneously made froin within and outside, and is developed in parallelwith the resurgence of "contactamos" thatopérate the translation of ideas. The resolution ofthe situation of colonialism reproduced in the globalization of knowledge within the contad áreas necessarily demands a simultaneously anti-utilitarian and post- colonial theoretical critique, supported on a deconstructive method. Henee, this article holds that the gift in Matiss's sense can play a role as a linguistic operator, strategic for deconstructing colonial devices as producers of cultural and moral inequalities, being atthe same time keyfor liberating new social and cultural energies within the áreas of translation
