FARAH, Ivonne y GIL, Mauricio. Modernidades alternativas: una discusión desde Bolivia. Rev. Umbr. Cs. Soc. [online]. 2012, n.24, pp. 173-202. ISSN 1994-4543.
This article discusses the emergence of many approaches on multiple modernities and alter-native modernities, as well as the debates between these approaches following a North/South argument line. In the first part the discussion on multiple modernities as creative adaptations is mapped establishing a difference between more "passive" (Taylor and Lee, Eisenstadt) and more "active" orientations (Gaonkar), which are compared with the approaches on alternative modernities in the South: modernity as self-determination (Chatterjee), critique of colonialism as the dark side of modernity (Mignolo, Quijano, Dussel), and the quest for a non-capitalist modernity (Echeverría). In the secondpart, the authors analyze the Bolivian proposal on Well Living (Vivir Bien) and its potential as a horizon for a non-capitalist alternative modernity
