In Latin-American countries, the way that society and the state have organized themselves around natural resources is especially notorious, both in the past and the present. Natural gas politics in Bolivia represent a strategic area in the conceptualization of the development model as well as a source of new income, opening up new scope for sociopolitical measures. This new balance of political power influences the direction of public financial flows and correspondent programs, which again re-constitute the balance of power. The intended move towards economic democratization is necessary if a broader democratization at the level of society and the state is to take place in a plural economic model.
