QUIROGA ZEBALLOS, Miguel Ángel e MONTANO SUAREZ, Abraham M.. Effect of electrocoagulation in the biodegradability of mixed industrial effluents. Rev tec u [online]. 2019, vol.1, n.14, pp. 03-16. ISSN 1991-6469.
Abstract This investigation evaluated the effects of electrocoagulation in laboratory scale on the biodegradability of mixed industrial effluents. Through a factorial experimental design 2k in blocks with three factors and additional central points, it was shown that the pH, current density, and retention time are factors that influence the increase of biodegradability. The treatment of electrocoagulation increased the index of biodegradability from 0.71 to 0.84, from 0.43 to 0.93 and from 0.25 to 0.77 in operation conditions of pH 9, current density of 44.29 A/m2 and retention time of 3 minutes. Also, achieved were removals in DBO5 of 51.2% and in DQO of 73.44% with a pH of 5, current density of 44.29 A/m2 and retention time of 9 min. Also achieved were energy consumptions from 0.075 kWh/m3 to 0.675 kWh/m3 and current efficiencies from 97.13% and 220%.
