    Abstract

RIOS MONTES, Rossío. Cuencas hidrográficas del departamento de Santa Cruz contaminadas por el saneamiento básico del sector urbano. Rev tec u [online]. 2015, n.13, pp. 14-22. ISSN 1991-6469.

Abstract Santa Cruz' department is divided into 16 watersheds that have become into receiving bodies of waste generated by the basic sanitation (services of: Drinking water, sanitary sewerage and sanitary excreta disposal, solid waste and storm drainage) causing contamination . There have been isolated studies about it, making it impossible to plan actions to achieve an Integrated Water Resources Management IWRM. This study aims to determine which watershed Santa Cruz' department are more contaminated by the basic sanitation that takes place in its urban areas and thus contribute to IWRM. First had been defined the basic services activities may contaminate water bodies, assessing the environmental requirements to be met and analyzing related studies, then had been evaluated these activities in urban areas of the department to collect information through interviews, surveys and physical inspection and then had been compared this situation with the provisions of the national regulations, identifying the most polluted watersheds. It was conducted by a teacher and students of Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Sciences and Technology in the Framework Agreement on Academic Cooperation between the University «Gabriel René Moreno» and the Association of Santa Cruz' municipalities. The watershed of the Santa Cruz most polluted for basic sanitation that takes place in its urban areas are Pirai River Basin (Municipalities El Torno, La Guardia, Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Warnes, Montero) and Parapeti River Basin (Camiri municipality), being the most critical. It is not possible to assess the contamination of a body of water only for basic sanitation activities, it is necessary to evaluate all possible sources of contamination and to analyze the resiliency of the water body.
