Abstract The Basic Sanitation in Bolivia includes services of potable water; sanitary sewer; sanitary disposal of excreta; solid waste and storm drainage. To contribute to reduce pollution of water sources that can cause this basic services has evaluated compliance with the environmental requirements of basic sanitation that takes place in four municipalities of Santa Cruz, from the related technical normative legal instruments, performing a retrospective, transactional, descriptive and observational research. The study was conducted under the Academic Cooperation between the "Gabriel René Moreno" University and the Association of Municipalities of Santa Cruz Framework Convention. Environmental issues must meet the basic sanitation in Bolivia are: Creating a related environmental issues in the institutions involved unit; The environmental license for the Basic Services; The use of water resources holistically by monitoring the quality of drinking water, pollution control of the source and receiving bodies and the efficient use of water; Proper management of solid waste including the use and inclusion of environmental issues in projects of the municipality. It has been verified that the Basic Sanitation in Bolivia has technical normative legal instruments. Potable water and sewerage have sufficient institutional framework to ensure compliance with environmental requirements, but as regards the monitoring of water pollution does not guarantee protection of the resource. The management of solid waste is posing major deficiencies, although in recent years have developed these policy instruments are unknown. It is especially recommended make studies related to water pollution watersheds and water sources as receiving bodies and as an educative institution disseminate technical normative legal instruments issued.
