Areview was conducted to 379 people in the city of Oruro, showing that in females of the 223 persons, 58 (26%) women presenting with hemoglobin values> 15.7 mg / di, hemoglobin valúes considered as high. Taking as an average hemoglobin valué in females 14.9 mg / di. While males in the 156 belonging to this genus 24 (15%) men presenting with hemoglobin values> 17.7 mg / di, hemoglobin valúes considered as high. Getting as average valué of hemoglobin in males 16.0 mg / di. As the hematocrit was found that of 223 people from 65 females (29%) women studied had hematocrit values> 47%, considered high hematocrit valúes. Getting as average valué of hematocrit in females of 44.81%. While in males was found that of 156 (41%) male persons belonging to 34 (22%) men presenting with hematocrit> 52%, considered high hematocrit valúes. Getting an average valué of hematocrit in male 48.46%. As above, this study establishes reference valúes for hemoglobin and hematocrit in the Andean population of the city of Oruro, which lies at an altitude of (3706 meters above sea level), considering that these come to be high because the decrease in the partial pressure of oxygen, along with other factors. stimulate erythro-poiesis, leading to polycythemia, which increases the hemoglobin and hematocrit.
