We Analyzed melanoma's prevalence and clinical predominant variety at Cupertino Arteaga Institute, we determined prevalence level and the clinical predominant variety in order to offer preco-cious and opportune diagnosis. Also we identified: - melanoma-another proportion of skin cancer -  the year with the greatest incidence of melanoma - types of treatment We believed that exists an increment in the prevalence of melanoma in the periods from May of 1999 to May of 2003, and that clinical predominant variety is Acrolentiginoso. This is a descriptive, retrospective, transversal, correlational study. We studied patients from Cupertino Arteaga lnstitute of Sucre with melanoma, they were between 30-79 years old, through the revision of 1020 clinical histories of patient with severa! types of cancer in the periods between may of 1999 to may of 2003 Our results were: - Acrolentiginoso variety was the most frecuent-ly 70% - Melanoma represents 16% of the whole skin cancer cases in the Iast 5 years - 20% were treated with surgery, and 20% had both surgery and quimiotherapy We conclude that melanoma acrolentiginoso is predominant 70% , that women are more affected than men, that surgery an quiemotherapy is the treatment used the most because of its best results and lower costs.
