BUSTAMANTE G., Zulema y SVOBODA, Michal. Molecular tipification of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in Cochabamba, La Paz and Santa Cruz. BIOFARBO [online]. 2009, vol.17, n.2, pp. 01-07. ISSN 1813-5363.
This work aims to determine the Mycobacterium tuberculosis genotypes in Cochabamba, La Paz, and Santa Cruz by applying the IS6110-PCR technique, previously standardized and later validated by the IS6110-RFLP technique. Seventy two samples of the bacteria under study were tested and the results revealed nine profiles of different bands. Thus, Mycobacterium tuberculosis could be grouped in nine genotypes that show variability according to the geographical area. Genotype I, followed by III and VII, predominates in the area of Cochabamba; genotype I in Santa Cruz; and genotypes III and II in La Paz. The IS6110-RFLP standardized technique allowed the validation of the IS6110-PCR, revealing a correlation between both techniques. Moreover, The IS6110-RFLP standardized technique also showed the presence of several copies of IS6110 in a number greater than six and lesser than ten.
