The enteroparasitosis, far from being eradicated, persists with more intensity than ever. The objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of intestinal parasites in children of incarcerated mothers at the Feminine Orientation Center of Obrajes, La Paz, Bolivia, in the period 2008. In a representative sample (n=50) of children aged 1 to 14 years, evaluations of 150 stool samples were performed by means of direct examination, and using the technique of modified Ritchie; 82% of the children were found to have parasites and commensals. The most frequent protozoa and helminthe were Blastocystis hominis (64%) and Hymenolepis nana (6%). There was no statistically significant difference between gender and age of the children with B. hominis, 28 children presented B. hominis associated to other protozoa and helminthes. The chi-square test showed a statistically significant association between B. hominis + Entamoeaba coli and B. hominis +Endolimax nana. The population needs educational programs regarding hygiene and basic sanitation measures integrated to control and eradication of enteroparasitosis.
